With MBFWA in full flight, controversy has sprung out of today’s Misha Collection ‘Misha Gold Resort17’ runway show, with the closing runway walk using Beyoncé’s anthem ‘Formation’.
It’s a bit of a weird (read: stupid) choice considering the lineup of models appeared to be solely white and the songs history as a call to action for black women, as part of the ‘Black Live Matter’ national social movement.
Here’s a clip from the show:
The post on IMG Models Instagram has since been flooded with comments, with some offended by the appropriation of the song despite the people represented being largely white. Some of the comments include:
‘Love their stuff but where is the variation in skin colours for their models.’
‘Why are they walking to formation? not one black model or POC in sight.’
‘Vomit white people belittling the meaning behind formation.’
‘How you gonna use black songs but not black people smh.’
Can’t argue with that…
