Worst and worst dressed of the Brit Awards

If you didn’t know that London had just had a fashion week, you could probably figure something was awry by glancing at the Brit Awards. Nothing says burned out hair and makeup artists, absentee stylists and ‘clothing unavailable’ quite like the bright but bedraggled clothes on show at this year’s ceremony.

Last year we railed against the ‘interesting little dress’, a usually digitally printed, somewhat unusually cut, often micro-mini style that seems to have become a red carpet default, particularly in London. English designers do it well. Interesting little dresses are Christopher Kane’s calling card, they’ve made Mary Katrantzou a darling, and placed Peter Pilotto in major department stores across the globe. They’re also fine in moderation – say on Emma Watson with her elegant pixie hair at an American event where everyone else is in gowns – but clashing en masse? Disaster.

Even Taylor Swift, who is normally an image of icy, risk-averse Ellie Saab perfection, somehow wound up looking like the corpse bride's toilet roll cover, while Natasha Khan, who looks like the corpse bride in a good way, mostly, was dressed as one of Blair Waldorf’s clueless minions circa Gossip Girl season three.

The only bright spot was Harry Styles, not because what he was wearing was acceptable in any way, but because duct tape on the knees is always indicative of a job well done.

Maybe. That dress certainly isn't as nice as the awesome rainbow cape and skirt she had when she was here a few weeks ago, but it's still much better than pretty much everyone else's outfit (except her shoes, which are a bit blah)

Sometimes I think that every time Taylor Swift wears a white dress to an event she is just making use of the wedding dress she prematurely bought for her dream wedding to her previous boyfriend. That was for her kooky "I'm marrying a practically underage Englishman so I am going to dress like a Victorian child" wedding.

I came across this "article" in a related search and felt the need to register, comment and inform you that the inept, insulting and malicious content (perhaps most strikingly in the adjoining image commentary) of your "article" is truly inappropriate. Your intent is baffling and your writing style overly crude. The repulsion you exert towards the expressions of individualism exemplified in this piece is startling and, in truth, worrying.

Please do not respond to my commentary.
