The Best Dressed Women of 2012
2012 was the year denim popped up everywhere from red carpet events to runways, jumpsuits were made by designers other than Bonds, dressing down became the new dressing up and silhouette trends changed faster than the sell out rate for a Duchess of Cambridge endorsed high street dress.
Best dressed lists sometimes run the risk of resembling the annual end of year awards handed out at high school. The same annoying high achievers and teachers pets always seem to clean up (yes Miranda that’s you) but in 2012 the winners were those who stood out because they took a risk, stumbled a little but all in all looked consistently chic and a little creative. Alexa and Diane are banned for being too consistently good.
10. Quentin Bryce
In 2012 our GG had the grace of Princess Di but jazzed it up with more pizzazz than Elton John. Show me another Australian who rocked neon and had the guts to team an Akubra with a bold lip and loud floral frock with as much poise as this stylish 70-year-old and I’ll eat a carbohydrate.
9. Jessica Biel
Any woman who can make layers of rose coloured tulle palatable deserves a Victoria Cross for services to style. Biel used every press opportunity in 2012 to wax lyrical about how much she didn’t care about her wedding to JT. While she looked not terrible on her big day she really shone on the publicity tour for Total Recall in frothy Elie Saab, a Giambattista Valli feather peplum, neon heels, bold nail art and banging bangs.
8. Elle Fanning
While it’s frustrating that a 14-year-old can rock Opening Ceremony Letterman jackets and Marc Jacobs pinafores better than most women, Elle is shaping up to be quite the fashionable tour de force (once she’s out of her training bra). Her 2012 wardrobe toed the line of quirky and age appropriate from the ankles up. Her feet, adorned in Prada’s Judo flatforms at the Twilight: Breaking Dawn premiere, were more exciting than K-Stew flashing her camel toe.
