"Keep Calm and Rape A Lot" is not the world's most offensive T-shirt

"Keep Calm and Rape A Lot" is not the world's most offensive T-shirt

Last week Amazon.co.uk found itself in hot water over the sale of t-shirts that advised the world to “Keep Calm and Rape A Lot”. These ‘rape’ tees, sold by Solid Gold Bomb, via the Amazon website, were apparently generated by a computer which threw up every conceivable verb under the ‘Keep Calm and...’ slogan.

Most blatantly sexist, racist, homophobic or just plain awful t-shirts do not have a random algorithmic misfire to blame.

Spencer’s Gifts is one of the worst offenders, and has come under fire for selling shirts that read “I have the dick, so I make the rules” and “Hey sluts let’s f-ck”, but they are far from alone.

Forever 21 has been found selling fitted women’s shirts that proudly declare ‘Allergic to Algebra’, while American Apparel, a company which has faced more sexual harassment claims than a Berlusconi Bunga Bunga party, were caught selling ‘Teenagers do it better’ t-shirts.

While it’s hard to imagine someone wearing a t-shirt with an Australian flag which reads “Support it or f-ck off” in public without comment, the mere fact that these shirts have been printed is galling. Many have since been removed from shelves due to complaints, but there are still plenty of online outlets that trade exclusively in offensive shirts.
