Downton Abbey star cast as Cinderella, Robb Stark as Prince Charming
Disney has tapped into the endemic Game of Thrones obsession and cast the King of The North as Prince Charming in the upcoming Cinderella re-make.
Richard Madden, who plays Robb Stark in Everybody’s Favourite Show, is set to bring his personal brand of magic to next year’s live-action adaptation of Cindarella. He will star opposite Lily James, who plays Lady Rose McClare in British turn-of-the-century drama Downton Abbey.
Cate Blanchett is confirmed as the forthcoming movie’s notorious stepmother, with the evil stepsister roles still reportedly up for grabs. My votes go to Sansa Stark, Edith Crawley and Carrie Mathison (add in that classic cry face for good measure!), but film director Kenneth Branagh will have the final say – which means Helena Bonham Carter is probably off limits.
Given Branagh’s extensive experience in producing Shakespearean adaptations, audiences can expect a magnificent medieval delight, augmented by the combined experience of Madden and James who have become costume drama professionals, given their involvement with respectively successful TV juggernauts.
According to MTV, Emma Watson turned down the shoe-losing leading lady role, which is sad, because this is probably as close to a Hermione-Goes-To-Westeros as we’ll ever get.
Cinderella will air in Australian cinemas next year.
