As the One Direction boys take a long break, Simon Cowell has admitted he’s ‘absolutely sure’ there will be more solo projects coming out of 1D.
One Direction boss-man, Simon Cowell is “sure” the members of One Direction will release a bunch of solo material. It comes on the back of speculation that some are already registering and recording new tracks.
The group – Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Niall Horan – are currently enjoying an extended hiatus but their record label boss doesn’t think they’ll be taking too much time off from making music.
Asked if there will be “any more solo projects“, he told E! News this morning,
“Yeah, there will be more, I’m absolutely sure of that.”
The music mogul insisted that the young hitmakers needed a break after working so hard for the last five years. He added:
“Well, [the break] was always going to come. You can’t work at that level; the way they did. I mean lots of things are going to be announced over the next few months, but they were, are, the nicest people, you know, to work with.
“Hardworking, appreciate everything, so it won’t be the end.”
Directioner Liam Payne recently let slip in a BBC radio interview that the band could be taking a break for up to two years, more than was initially expected and it’s likely some of the lads might get restless during that time. The extend of the time off was a huge shock to fans.
One such member, Harry Styles has been working on some of his own tracks, registering songs called ‘Already Home’, ‘Coco‘, ‘Endlessly‘ and ‘5378 Miles‘ with the performing rights organisation ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers). According to NME, Styles shares co-writing credits for the songs with Snow Patrol guitarist John McDaid and dance songwriter/producer Gary Go, but all four songs listed Styles as the only performer.
This news came around the same time that Jay-Z spoke out, proclaiming his goal to work with Styles to help tee-up bigger producers, collaborators and help him transition to the biggest artist on the planet. Earlier we reported that he went as far to say,
“I can get him working with the bigger artists, the biggest producers — and have him as the biggest artist within a year.
“I would love to sign Harry. Simon is going to want to carry on working with him, of course. But we could do a joint venture — we both have big qualities we can bring to the table.”
It’s likely that the boys, or at least Harry, will be keeping a close eye on the rise of Zayn Malik who quit the group in March 2015 and has launched a successful solo career in only 12 months. Simon spoke openly about the success of ‘Pillow Talk‘ saying that the singer is doing really well and everyone’s happy for him. He said:
“We were involved with what label he went on, and he’s still signed to our company, so, he’s done fantastic, and he’s showing that he’s a great vocalist and very talented.”
We’ll be watching closely for any new solo directions.
